Refining |
Crude Vegetable Oils contains impurities that are required to be removed to improve the quality as well as maintaining the nutritional values. The global focus on environmental issues as well as increasing energy cost makes it necessary for the refiners to adopt suitable modern technologies.
With decades of accumulated industrial experience and expertise in vegetable oil refining, Integrated Oleo Processing Technologies offers every step, from crude oil processing to refining of various seed oils and has delivery capability from single section to a complete refinery. We focus on energy conservation, lowest utility requirement, less effluent discharge, low environmental pollution, highest yields and best quality products. |

Degumming |
De gumming is the starting process in refining operation. The process consists of hydration of the crude oil whereby impurities like phospholipids, gums and proteins which are soluble in oil in their anhydrous form, but insoluble once they are hydrated, are removed.
Water degumming is generally carried out for seed oils in the extraction plant or in the refinery, where the gums are added back to the desolventiser toaster or were the gums are required to be dried to produce lecithin.Acid degumming is employed where the oil contains impurities which are difficult to hydrate. Such oils are treated with acid to make the impurities hydratable. There are special degumming methods which are employed to get the phosphatide to a very low levels, to make the oils suitable for physical refining. |

Neutralising |
|
This operation consists in neutralising the free fatty acids, using caustic soda transforming the free fatty acids into soaps. These are no longer being soluble in oil is removed easily by centrifugation. Along with the removal of the free fatty acids the operation also eliminates the phospholipids that are not hydrated at degumming level, and it removes the metal traces as well as some coloring pigments. |

Bleaching |
|
Bleaching is the process which is carried out before deodorisation mainly for removal of coloring matter.
As the bleaching treatment uses active earth, it will remove residual phosphatides, metals, soaps and minor components.
The process is performed in three stages :
1. |
Initial mixing of oil with bleaching earth under controlled conditions of temperature and pressure. |
2. |
Secondly the oil bleaching earth slurry is held for a specific residence time. |
3. |
Finally the mixture is pumped through hermetic leaf filters followed by polishing filtration. The Spent cake is then dried by steam blowing to remove the oil from the wet cake |

Dewaxing |
Winterisation / Dry Dewaxing is an operation designed to retain brightness of refined oils, specifically of sunflower and corn oils through filtration.
The process consists in removing small quantities of material that cause cloudiness when the oil is kept at ambient or low temperature. These solid substances can be saturated long chain glycerides or waxes. Thanks to the relatively small amount of these components winterising is a cost-effective physical process. In order to obtain bright shining oil with good stability, the wax content needs to be reduced to a minimum level preferably less around 10 ppm. To achieve this, the variables of time, temperature require special control to produce oil. |
The process is conducted in four steps: |
1. |
Oil is pre cooled |
2. |
Filter aid is added and the oil is cooled very slowly |
3. |
Oil is held for few hours for maturation |
4. |
Cooled Oil is then filtered |

Deodorisation |
|
Deodorising is the final step in the oil refining process intent to remove odoriferous material, free fatty acids and other undesired minor components to produce a bland oil with a good shelf life.
Every Processor require high quality oil with nutritional values, with good shelf life. |
|
|
|
The stages in deodorising are
1. |
Dearation / Heating |
2. |
Deodorising / Steam stripping |
3. |
Heat recovery / Cooling |
4. |
Final cooling |
5. |
Polishing filtration |
To produce good quality refined oil require optimal conditions at all stages. Our Continuous Deodoriser systems are

|
MultiTray Deodoriser |
The MultiTray Deodoriser is a fully integrated compact deodorising concept, in which de aeration, heat exchanging, final heating, deodorizing/stripping, cooling, all take place in one single deodorizing vessel under vacuum.
The design has been developed for highly demanding seed oil processors specially, seeking reliable, consistent and high product quality with very low color and very good shelf life. As a result of research over various operating plants, such a design has been developed taking into consideration the need of the market. |
|
The main design consideration are |
|
Negligible pressure drop |
The pressure drop across the MultiTray Deodoriser is negligible, and the very high vacuum conditions in the vessel allow deodorization to take place at a relatively low temperature. This is beneficial in two ways |
1. |
For retaining natural anti-oxidants. |
2. |
Preventing generation of decomposed products |
|
|
Duel steam injection |
|
In the MultiTray deodorizer the steam mixing is effected in two ways. One through special designed steam pumps which circulates the bottom oil layer in the tray to the top, to facilitate better deodorization and on the other through bubbling of steam through steam sparge ring pipes to keep the oil agitated and carry the vaporizing components. |
|
|
Uniform Vacuum |
|
The central ducting with in the vessel is designed for optimum rising velocity for the vapors and very low pressure drop. Due to this, all trays are operated under uniform vacuum. This ensures proper removal of odoriferous compounds. |
|
|
High retention time |
|
In order to ensure very low color for the refined oil, certain oils require long deodorization time to get effective heat bleaching. Since MultiTray Deodoriser need not be operated at high temperature, the deodorization time can be increased without affecting the quality. |
